Zelena Akcija: Preserve Historic Kaptol

Zelena Akcija (Green Action) environmental organization reacted to the announced cooperation of Cardinal Bozanić and Mayor Milan Bandic, on five different projects. Zelena Akcija focused on two of the projects � plans to build 2,500 apartments in developments in Strug on �itnjak and the proposed Museum of Sacral Art in Nova Vesa.

The association supports the projects, but noted that the selected locations were not well considered, especially the plan to build public hosing projects on �itnjak, since the very location borders the main disposal pipe channel of the municipal waste water system (GOK), and is surrounded by chemical industry facilities, waste water processing plant, while it is the proposed location for the new waste incinerator facility.

-We invite Bandić and Bozanić to review their plans and to see that the proposed location is far from adequate for housing projects, says Zelena Akcija, reminding that the area has been planned to remain industrial zone for decades, but the changes in the General Urban Plan of 2007 ruled that it can be considered for housing developments.

Zelena Akcija also finds the proposal for possible construction of three new buildings in the Kaptol area in Zagreb totally unacceptable. The new buildings should house the Museum of Sacral Arts, while the organization finds the option to adapt some of the existing buildings far more appropriate.

-We support the preservation of the historical identity of the City of Zagreb that is best evident in the Kaptol, and find it unacceptable, at this day and age, to plan new buildings there, concludes Zelena Akcija.
