The Gay Straight Alliance filed criminal charges to the First Municipal Prosecution Office in Belgrade against the unknown assailants that attacked two lesbian girls, B.O. and T.B. and their friend R.B. in the park of the Serbian National Parliament and caused them grievous bodily injuries.
The attack took place on the night of June 28, before midnight, when the two girls and their friend were sitting on a bench in the Park. They were targeted by a group of young men sitting nearby who, according to the Alliance, were provoked by the fact that the two girls kissed several times. After several insults and verbal provocations, the altercation became physical. During the attack, B.O. was pushed to the ground and she hit her head on the pavement, resulting in a concussion and a deep gash on the top of her head. After they managed to escape, the victims of the attack called ambulance and were taken for medical intervention at the Belgrade Emergency Medical Centre. The Gay Straight Alliance demands from the Public Prosecutor to take all necessary actions to identify the attackers and to charge them with criminal charges to the Court of Law. -This attack is another clear example of violence faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans-gender persons in Serbia, says the Alliance, demanding from the new Government to make the fight against homophobic violence one of its priorities during this term in office. -Human life, safety and equality are the fundamental European values and we expect from the new Government, which boasts its pro-European policies, to prove its will to secure the implementation of those values for all citizens of Serbia, say representatives of GSA. |
