Memory Week Opens in Srebrenica

Life and Voices of Srebrenica International Memory Week, August 24-29, opened last Sunday, August 24. The Memory Week is organized under the auspices of the Adopt Srebrenica Project, implemented by the Alexander Langer Foundation with the support by Tuzlanske Amica and other organizations.

Representatives of the local self-government, Mayor Abdurahman Malkić and Radomir Pavlović, President of Municipal Council addressed the audience at the opening ceremony, noting that this and similar project are more than welcome and will have full support of the local community in Srebrenica.

The Drum Orchestra of the Srebrenica Child Theatre and the dancers of the Motus Danza dancing ensemble from Siena, Italy, performed at the opening ceremony. The performances were well received by the audience of the citizens of Srebrenica and about 100 Italians who came to Srebrenica to support the project.

During the memory week, the citizens of Srebrenica and their visitors from Italy and the Balkans will see and participate a number of activities, with special emphasis on workshops for clowns, dance and puppetry for children and teenagers.

The participants from Peć, Bratunac, Srebrenica and Italy will be able to participate in the media workshop organized by the OneWorld Foundation from Sarajevo and Italian Development Cooperative. In addition, field trips will be organized to historic points in Srebrenica and the area.

Daily screenings of documentary films and debates will be held every day at Srebrenica Cultural Centre.
