ACIPS Supports the First Queer Sarajevo Festival
The Association Alumni of the Centre for the Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Studies ACIPS supports the organization of the first Queer Sarajevo Festivala, September 24-28, as a positive initiative that will speak openly about differences existing in every sociaty, including Bosnia and Herzegovina.
`We find it defeating and unacceptable for a secular and democratic country to interpret such an initiative as provocation of any kind and attempts are being made to block it. We also condemn the hate speech that has resulted in escalation of violence`, says ACIPS.
The Association notes that BiH is obligated to honour its obligations listed in the constitution in the European Convention of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms that prohibits any form of discrimination. Bosnia and Herzegovina also has a valid Gender Equality Law that also prohibits discrimination on basis of sex and sexual orientation.
`All past expressions of intolerance speak about the prejudices and closed nature of BiH society, and we use this opportunity to warn of the need to review its norms and system of values. For that reason, we support the Q Association in this important step to fight homophobia and promote multiculturality`, comments ACIPS.
