NDNV Worries Over Violations of Journalistic Code of Conduct
The Independent Association of Journalists of Vojvodina protests the approach adopted by a number of Belgrade-based media to the reporting on Vojvodina and the process of adoption of the new Statute of the Autonomous Province.
`Some elements in the reporting, like the absurd accusations of separatism, reminds us of the media harangue carried out by media and journalists controlled by Slobodan Milošević before and after the so-called yoghurt revolution which was used as pretext for the constitutional putsch and marked the start of the violent break-up of former Yugoslavia`, says NDNV.
NDNV adds that unprofessional and often malicious presentation of events in Vojvodina points out at the possibility that some media are controlled by individual political parties, but also constitutes, in some of its elements, a violation of journalistic code of conduct, including the dangerous elements of `causing public unrest` and incitement, and invites the other journalists` associations to closely follow this phenomenon.
NDNV points out at Belgrade`s `Politika` daily which recently asked the question – in its `Pro et Contra` column – Do you, through acceptance of the Draft-Statute of Vojvodina, also agree that an independent state of Vojvodina should be created?
`The question is not just a case of professional omission, but a continuation of an editorial policy that corresponds greatly to the dangerous policies of the so-called patriotic parties that evidently define patriotism through discovery of ever new enemies`, comments NDNV.
