Naked Facts: Report Trafficking Activities
The second part of the Naked Facts campaign, implemented by the Astra NGO, started last Friday, September 26, under the motto Report it in! Astra believes that the citizens of Serbia should not remain indifferent to the fact that there are women, children and men that live in slavery.
- Quite to the contrary, we need to be more active and report any doubts and suspicions of foul play we are aware of. Only then shall we get a chance to create a society that we want to live in, where every individual is free, his or her rights fully recognized, says Astra in a public statement.
Again, the Naked Facts are presented by Jugoslav Ćosić, Milutin Petrović, Ivan Tasovac, Dejan Anastasijević, Željko Bodrožić, Branislav Lečić and Vukašin Marković. They were selected as men who maintained their professional and personal integrity and credibility and have been known as people who insist on the truth.
The Naked Facts is the fifth anti-trafficking campaign implemented by Astra NGO, launched in June 2008. The first part of the campaign aimed at prevention of trafficking and raising awareness of most common recruitment practices, under the motto Be Informed, having in mind that well informed citizens are less likely to fall for the traps of traffickers. Over a month of intensive campaigning, the SOS Phone Line registered 40% increase of number of total calls, especially preventive calls.
- We didn`t choose June by accident. In fact, the rising demand for seasonal workers, and the fact that the bulk of the activities are informal and outside the control of competent bodies, the risk of a variety of abuses, including trafficking, is quite high. The SOS Phone Line is possibly the only preventive tool we have, with preventive calls amounting to about 15% of all calls we get - says Astra NGO.
The campaign is implemented in cooperation with OSCE Mission to Serbia, with support by Austrian Development Agency ADA.
