Campaign to Curb Violence against Children

The First Children Embassy in the World MEGJAŠI, concerned about the difficult situation of not that small number of children victims of domestic violence, launched the See, Listen, Report campaign on Friday, November 7, intended to encourage children, parents, neighbours, relatives to report and not cover-up domestic violence.

The campaign is part of the continued activities of the Embassy, directed towards securing more efficient protection for children rights. The Embassy reacts, raises the alarm, demands stricter sanctions for perpetrators of violent and sexual abuse acts of children.

- Once we detect a case of violent attack or other violation of children rights, we go to the Ombudsman, the prosecution authorities, social work centres, competent ministries, the police and schools – says Megjaši, adding their data collected from the SOS phone shows dramatic and rapid rise of incidence of violence against children.

The campaign aims to contribute to more responsible parenting and to raise the public awareness about the need to support and help the children.

- The parents don`t want to beat their children. They do it, however, because they feel stressed, helpless and bad because of the inability to control their actions. Beating is not successful approach to teaching kids to good behaviour. Quite to the contrary, it teaches them to aggression, results in resistance and weakens the tie between the parent and the child - says Megjaši.

The campaign is part of the Childhood Without Violence – Towards Better System of Child Protection in Eastern Europea international project, implemented in Macedonia by the Embassy, in a partnership with the Nobody`s Children Foundation from Poland, with support from AVA DDB, Akcent media, Data Pons, Lazov Group companies and Dnevnik, Vest and Vreme dailies.
