Kosovo Experts discuss Human Rights in Sweden

Two Experts on Human Rights and Disabilities from Kosovo will conclude today their participation in a two-week gathering with colleagues from twelve countries in Stockholm, Sweden, where they discussed improvements of human rights for persons with disabilities.

The International Programme is organised by Shia - the Swedish Organisations` of Persons with Disabilities International Aid Association and funded by SIDA - the Swedish Development and Cooperation Agency.

- The Swedish experience of strategies and action plans regarding persons with disabilities is very interesting and best ways to join EU and also big opportunity to implement the new Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, says Hiljmnijeta Apuk from Little People of Kosova.

Sweden was a great opportunity for us to increase our knowledge of human rights of persons with disabilities, learn from best practices in the region, as well as new methods to influence changes in our countries`.

Since 2005 Shia has certified more than 150 Human Rights Experts from more than 60 countries. The participants met with representatives of the UN, World Bank as well as other international experts on human rights and disabilities.

Representatives of Kosova, Macedonia, Montenegro, Croatia, Turkey, Ukraine, Georgia, Tajikistan, Armenia, Moldova, Azerbaijan and Serbia participate in the 8th International gathering participants represented.

- It is of utmost importance to empower and strengthen the rights of persons with disabilities and to exchange professional knowledge as well as best practices within the field of Human Rights and Disabilities, said Roland Hakansson, Chairman of the Swedish Organisations` of Persons with Disabilities International Aid Association.
