No more war heroes poster

On July 18, 2003, the draft Constitution of the EU was presented in public (More on the document). From the moment it was published a number of amendments have been submitted. In a joint effort to built in the principles of peacemaking in the European Constitution, and to define the EU itself as a peacemaking community which refuses the war as a means of solving international conflicts, the peace organizations from all over Europe started an initiative to introduce an amendment to the draft-Constitution: to change Article 1 of the Constitution which should contain a clear and unambiguous statement that Europe refuses to accept war as a means for solving international disputes and recognizes peace as a basic right of man and nations. TAVOLA DELLA PACE (TAVOLO BASTA LE GUERRE – WE HAD ENOUGH WARS) sent an invitation to the Slovenian and Croatian peace organizations to join in the organization of a campaign to sign a petition in Slovenia and Croatia to change Article 1. Namely, although Slovenia and Croatia are not members of the European Union, the campaign calls upon the principle that all nations of Europe have equal right to decide on their own future, regardless of the current political map. Therefore, the Civic Initiative “We had Enough Wars! Call on the citizens to use the web page of of the initiative and to sign the following petition:
WE DEMAND THAT ARTICLE 1 OF THE EUROPEAN CONSTITUTION CONTAINS A CLEAR STATEMENT THAT EUROPE REFUSES WAR!
1. Article of the European Constitution:
Europe refuses war as a means to solve international disputes and recognizes the peace as a basic right of man and nations.
Europe participates in the creation of a peaceful and democratic international order; with that goal in mind, it promotes and prefers the strengthening of the United Nations and the development of international cooperation.
Also, the Civic Initiative WE HAD ENOUGH WARS! calls on the citizens, civic initiatives and NGOs to organize the signing of the petitions in their communities, and to send the signed petitions to:
