Croatian Mine Action Centre (HCR) Presented the New Educational Video and the Donations Phone Number

The Croatian Mine Action Centre (HCR) and “Hrvatska bez Mina” Charity (Mine-Free Croatia), in the presence of Jadranka Kosor, the Vice President of the Government, presented the new video clip designed to educate and warn school children about the danger of mines. They also presented to the public the new dedicated phone line 060 888 400, which can be used by the citizens to make a donation of 3,96 Kuna per phone call, which will go to the fund for de-mining of Croatia.

HCR Director, Oto Jungwirth, said that the land-mines left from the Homeland War remain a danger for the people that live in their vicinity. He put special emphasis on the need for continuous informing of the public about the danger of land-mines.

Giving his gratitude to all the people that participated in the production of the video clip, Jungwirth said that the video will be aired until the end of the year.

He noted that this is the key year for the solution of the problem of mines in Croatia, and said that the process of de-mining should be paid greater attention, having in mind that land-mines will kill people until every last one of them is eliminated.

Branko Bosnjak, Director of the “Hrvatska bez mina” Charity estimated that the donations campaign through the phone line 060 888 400 will help the process of de-mining in Croatia immensely. He added that the campaign plans to gather about 10 million Kuna by the end of the year, which is enough for de-mining of one square kilometre. Bošnjak announced the continuation of the campaign for gathering donations through sale of coupons titled “I, too, can de-mine one square metre.”

Greeting the idea of the educational video clip and the donations campaign, the Vice President of the Government Jadranka Kosor said that the problem of land-mines in Croatia remains the priority of the Government. She added that she supports all education campaigns organized by HCR, especially the campaigns aimed at school children, and emphasized that mine-fields are great danger for the return of displaced persons into the regions that were used for military operations. Kosor said that the Government plans to submit a new Law on De-Mining to the Parliament. The new Law is eagerly awaited by the public and the pyro-technicians for quite some time.

Jadranka Kosor then called 060 888 400 herself and made her contribution to the campaing.
