Bringing Information Sciences Closer to the Citizens

Sixty-six returnees, refugees and IDPs, as well as persons with special needs from Prijedor, successfully completed the course on the basics of information sciences. The training programme lasted from February 1 to April 30, 2004, and was financed by the Danish Refugee Council.

According to Vesna Nikolic, the leader of the Project, this was also a pilot project which was successfully implemented by the “Telecentar” NGO from Prijedor. According to Nikolic, the goal of the project is to improve the social status of the vulnerable population, to provide that population with working skills and to introduce the citizens to information sciences and technologies.

The total value of the project was 3360 EURO, and the education programme included persons between 19 and 45 years of age. Projects like this one serve as basis for other projects. “As an implementing agency, “Telecentre” Prijedor is completely satisfied with the achieved,” said Nikolic, and added that “the most important aspect is the database we created which would be useful to the next group of beneficiaries of the project”.
