Montenegro Greens - The Project for Construction of Buk Bijela Dam Has to Be Presented to the Public

Zeleni Crne Gore (Montenegro Greens) NGO says that the justification of the construction of the Buk Bijela Dam and Powerplant will be possible only after a public debate is organized and the environmental impact study is prepared, in compliance with the international standards.

The Power Production system Buk Bijela will be a joint effort of Montenegro and Republic of Srpska (B&H). The Government of Montenegro estimated recently that the overall project will be very profitable and has great prospects. The powerplant will produce 1,3 billion Kilowatt Hours of electricity per year, and one third of the production will go to Montenegro.

The Greens believe that a public debate should be organized in order to present the study and the project of construction to all the interested parties. "Only then it will be possible to determine if the construction will be justified from the point of view of the environment and sustainable development, which is the declared policy in Montenegro", said the Greens.

Montenegro Greens think that the debate should gather all the relevant social agents and entities, which could contribute to the analysis of this important issue and the process of finding the best solution, with their sugesstions and advice. "We are prepared to offer the great intelectual potential and capacity of this organization, as well as logistic help for the organization of the debate, in order to facilitate the development of Montenegro as a environmentalist state that functions on the principle of sustainable development," concluded the representatives of the Greens.
