Last night, at about midnight, Dusko Jovanovic, the General Manager and Editor-in-chief of DAN Daily was ambushed and killed by unknown assailants. Jovanovic received multiple gunshot wounds and was immediately taken to the Podgorica Hospital and Clinics, where he received urgent medical treatment. He died early this morning because of the massive loss of blood caused by the wounds.

According to the eyewitness accounts, Jovanovic left the offices of the paper around midnight, stopped to say hello to "Politika" correspondent Dragomir Becirovic, and got into his "Peugeot 406", that was parked across the street. At that moment, an automobile (the witness accounts disagree whether it was a "BMW" or a "Volkswagen") stopped next to the Peugeot and a person inside opened automatic fire that wounded Jovanovic.

The attack car sped off the scene, in the direction of the Municipal Court and teh Faculty of Law building and disappeared. Jovanovic was immediately taken to hospital by his colleagues who rashed to help him.

Three policemen running a beat in the neighbouring streets arrived to the scene immediately after they heard the shots. Inspectors from the Ministry of Interior also visited the Hospital, where they talked and took statements from Jovanovic colleagues and witnesses.

Two shell casings were found on the scene of the attack, although witnesses say that the assailants fired a burst of at least seven or eight bullets. The crime scene investigation was conducted by the Investigative Judge Radomir Ivanovic and Public Prosecutore Ljiljana Klikovac. They took a statement by a person (only last name Mirovic was mentioned), who worked as Jovanovic’s bodyguard. Mirovic was allegedly sitting in the "VW Golf" parked behind Jovanovic, but no shots were fired at him.
