At is session of Wednesday, July 28, the Parliamentary Committee for Gender Equality decided to distribute the Bosnia and Herzegovina Law on Gender Equality to the Members of the Parliament, and announced that it will supply the legislation from other states in order to inspect and review the models used to regulate the issue of gender equality.
The MP’s from the ruling Democratic Party of Serbia abstained from the vote on the initiative, noting that what is necessary is to change the discriminatory provisions in the existing legislation which would provide for gender equality and harmonize the Serbian with the international law. Serbian Radical Party voted against the initiative, because the official party position is that provisions on equality are already contained in other legislation. They also add that this legislation should be amended and harmonized with the international legislation.
The Committee also started an initiative to the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Policies to change the provision in the Law on Financial Support to Families with Children so that to allow for a situation in which both parents could enjoy the financial support when they win the custody of the children.
