Resource Centres in Eastern and Western Serbia

Ten new resource centres (Brus, Zajecar, Majdanpek, Prokuplje, Pirot, Pozega, Valjevo, Sremska Mitrovica, Loznica and Ljig) started operating in Eastern and Western Serbia in June 2004. The Resource Centres are part of the “Support for Civil Society in Serbia” Project, jointly implemented by the European Agency for Reconstruction and Development and the European Movement in Serbia consortium, with the assistance of the Network of Experts, through the Fund for Support of Civil Society in Serbia.

The mission of the Resource Centres is to assist the establishment of NGOs and the development of civil society. They were established with the goal to provide assistance and support to the existing and potential NGOs and civic associations, but also to the citizens, state and municipal institutions, the media, commercial companies in the region they cover (51 municipality in Eastern and Western Serbia).

One of the important tasks of the Resource Centres is to promote the intra-sector cooperation of all important institutions, NGOs and citizens in order to provide to finding efficient solutions for the problems of the local communities. The Centres will implement these activities through several programmes: information and education; training and education; legal assistance, advisory and advocacy activities; public relations and research programmes.

In august, the web site www.nvo-srbija.info was launched with information on the activities of all Resource Centres and their contact information.
