New Project by the Friends of Tara River Society

Tara river can take all the help there is.

The Friends of Tara River Society from Zabljak started the implementation of its "Tara-Wealth and Obligations" Project. According to Suzana Bulatovic, the Project Coordinator, the project's goal is to improve the knowledge among the local population about the pollution of Tara River with nutrients, which is caused by abundant use of chemical fertilizers in agriculture, as well as by urban waste-water of the Kolasin and Mojkovac municipalities.

The project activities include opinion polls with the local population, debates and town-meetings, promotional campaign and appearances in the programmes of the electronic media.

At the start of the implementation of the project ("Afina" NGO from Podgorica will also participate in the project which has the support of the Regional Environmental Centre - REC, under its UNDP/GEF Danube Region Project) information will be collected about the current situation of the waste-water drainage systems of Kolasin and Mojkovac. In addition, the locations most endangered with the excessive use of chemicals in agriculture will be identified and registered.
