First B&H Association for Support to People with HIV/AIDS

In July 2004, the XY Association, with the support by Project HOPE, Swedish SIDA and DFID, started the project to establish and Association for Support to People with HIV/AIDS.

This is the first organization of its kind in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and its mission is to protect the human rights of people infected with HIV/AIDS, to eliminate the prejudices on the HIV virus and AIDS, and to disseminate knowledge and education on the disease and the methods of protection from it. The Association will promote, among other things, teh networking and self-organization of HIV carriers and people with AIDS in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also with similar organizations abroad, in order to give an opportunity to the diseased to realize their rights, but also to bring the information and facts about this global epydemics to the public.

The project will be implemented by the XY Association for Sexual and Reproductive Health from Sarajevo, established in 2001. The main activity of XY Organization is promotion of sexual and reproductive rights, health and services for all, and especially for vulnerable groups and youth in B&H. The organization is active on the whole territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina and is fighting to improve teh access and accessibility of information on sexual and reproductive health and public awareness since its beginnings.

Since June 2002, XY is associate member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation – IPPF EN), the largest volunteer organization in the field of sexual and reproductive health in the world, with member organizations in over 150 countries in the world.
