CDHRF Says That Its Officials Have Been Threatened

A press release by CDHRF, which was involved with an NGO network of observers for the 2004 parliamentary elections, received anonymous threats immediately after the publication of the preliminary results of the Elections.

According to this release the most serious and direct threat has been made to one of activists of CDHRF (Council for Defense of Human Rights and Freedoms), on October 25th 2004, around 11:30, by the Head of the Kosovo Democratic League Election Committee, Ms. Melihate Termkolli. She has accused Mr. Makolli, the president of CDHRF, by phone, of “manipulating the election results and stealing of LDK votes.”

She added that should “LDK miss a single vote from its tally, Makolli will suffer the consequences.”

CDHRF is disturbed by the fact that threats are coming from high ranking officials in the Kosovo Institutions. Melihate Termkolli is a member of the highest LDK leadership, the Head of the LDK Women Forum, member of Kosovo Parliament and Head of the Election Committee of this party.

“CDHRF considers such threats a concerted effort to intimidate the human rights activists. They are pressured to give on their activities, which obviously disturbed some people”, says the press release signed by Behxhet Shala, CDHRF Executive Director.
