From the Oath Ceremony in Veles

The volunteers, coming from different parts of the US, will stay in a number of Macedonian cities and villages, and will help the citizens learn English, assist on environmental issues and problems and municipal development and development of the nongovernmental sector.
The volunteers have stayed in Veles for the past three months. They have spent that time in learning Macedonian language and getting introduced to the Macedonian culture. Their training was completed yesterday, with the oath-giving ceremony, in the presence of Branko Crvenkovski, President of Macedonia, US Ambassador Lawrence Butler, and Mayor of Veles Ace Milenkovski.
”Many of us, before coming here, had to search on a map to find Macedonia. Now, however, Macedonia will be our home for two years,” said Jesus Villegas, on of the Peace Corps Volunteers.
The Peace Corps was founded by President John F. Kennedy, 43 years ago. It main goal is to provide volunteers interested in development of foreign countries, who would contribute to better understanding of Americans in the host countries, through development activities and exchange of information.
